Minimum level of WS' equipment will be: Microcomputer with central process unity (CPU) Intel Pentium, bus PCI (included controller HD and graphic file card), memory cache 256 KB, memory RAM 32 MB, one printer port (two for WS Laboratory for printing labels and work sheets for printer connection, two RS232, hard disk (HD) 1 GB IDE or SCSI (Small computer System Interface), driver for removable floppy disks 3.5", Ethernet card for network connection with 16 bit AT minimum speed of transfer 10/100 MB/sec, accelerating graphic file card SVGA PCI with resolution 1024x768 lines,16 Ml colors, RAM 2 MB and color monitor 15/17" SVGA (preferably no interlaced) pitch 0.28, standard keyboard with 102 Keys, Microsoft or compatible mouse.

A so structured computer will be indicated like WS Base and it will be operative with Windows NT Workstation or Windows 95. Modifications, additional machineries or particular software will be indicated in the following relation, which is relative to each WS, identified according to the main function.

The computer, which should be used as Netware general services, will have named server. Main point: It is not necessary a particular hardware's brand, but all equipments and accessories should be included in the Hardware Compatibility List of MS Windows NT or however guaranteed compatible. Absence of a driver or of a compatibility will prevent the proper use of personal computers.

File Server:

Function: it should contain the central file, the common programs' and the data line. It's the most important Personal Computer of network, it should be protected from power supply falls by a UPS and it should be installed in a secluded and isolated environment.

Hardware: 1 PC Pentium, bus PCI, at least 3 slot PCI, cache 512 KB, RAM 64 o128 MB, FD. (3"1/2), network Ethernet adapter PCI (10/100 MB/ sec), graphic card SVGA/1024, color monitor SVGA 15", driver SCSI with two high quality hard disks 2 GB SCSI (to manage in mirroring in order to guarantee data's security); driver for optical disk and removable with at least 640 MB SCSI.

Disks and Ethernet adapters (and if necessary also other accessories not standard) should be included in Hardware Compatibility List of Windows NT.

Group of continuity, 600 Watt, no break.

Software network: operating system Windows NT Server with licenses for at least x connections.

WS doctors' studies:

Function: consultation of all kinds of filed data. Execution scientific searches and external consultations. Station for microscopic images' memorization and didactic material's preparation.

Hardware: WS base; file card for images grabbing originating from camera, resolution 1024x1024, 16 million of colors, equipped with software of images' compression with standard JPEG (Joint Photography Expert Group); monitor 17" high resolution.

Optical scanner for reading bar codes.

Laser printer 8 ppm or ink-jet color printer.

Software: management of images' memorization, visualization and consultation. Database of images linked to service's data.

WS administrative offices and server for printing:

Function: additing tests' answers and data' codification, reports' printing, flux's control on tests in exit, production of services' summarizing tables. Station for backup on tape.

Hardware: WS base; optical scanner for reading bar codes. High velocity of laser printer (at least 10 ppm, 300x300 dpi), RAM 2 MB. Printers should be formatted as network printers on not dedicated server: possible re-configurations could be valued afterward. In one station 1 streaming tape (unity to tape for backup) with at least 1 GB, with interface SCSI included.

Software: office automation's programs, Word for Windows (Microsoft), Excel for Windows (Microsoft). Backup management for Windows NT.

WS lab macro/withdrawals:

Function: additing of data relative to macroscopic test of autoptic and/or surgical reports and of withdrawals for inclusion in paraffin. Labels' printing for slides and printing of number of inclusion. Tests' acceptance.

Hardware: WS base equipped with 2 parallel ports, 1 laser printer with high velocity (at least 10 ppm, 300x300 dpi) RAM 2 MB for work sheets printing, 1 ink-jet printer for labels' printing.
